Googlebot reads pages in the order in which everything is in the HTML source. With CSS, you can display anything anywhere.
But... my tests to date have shown that Google doesn't care so much where the content is on your page. I've moved it all around in the source and on the screen, with no effect on the SERPS.
However, layout
is very important for CTR. Always keep the heat map in mind when laying out your sites.
