I'm looking towards investing in some domains for a few niche's I'm going to try doing.

Anyways, a couple titles I have are fairly long and I was wondering if for SEO purposes would it be alright to use an abbreviation?

Say I wanted to make a website called Work at Home Solutions. Would it be seo friendly if the domain was wahsolutions.com rather than workathomesolutions.com ? WAHsolutions looks alot nicer, and more professional in my opinion.

I would go for branding value. People should remember your domain name.

Hmm... This is a tough one. Personally I don't think the abbreviation is appealing. Some things just sound good and others don't. Personally I would go for the longer domain which IMO isn't really that long. This is just me though maybe someone more experience has some good reasons why to choose one over the other.
