What's better, more submissions with lower PR (usually around PR3), or less submissions but with higher PR?

Also, has anyone ranked better in search engines after they submitted their site to directories? Or did it just help to boost the PR?

IMO one should follow both types of submissions as the directories with less PR will definitely grow someday to an increased PR and the high PR directories will give you instant benefit once your submission is approved.

Doing directory submissions always helps in ranking better in search engines and has a very soothing effect on PR as well.If you do it in the correct manner and do not rely on someone else for directory submissions you will notice the difference within a couple of months.

I'd rather see you spend your time getting links from content sites within your industry/niche. It would require more work, but I think the benefit would be far greater. The only directories I bother with are Yahoo Directory, DMOZ (waste of time now), Business.com, etc.

Yes, I have ranked many sites better for key phrases.
I was just checking tonight and I see I have made some nice progress over the last month from directory submissions.

I got a nice sales pitch today about how I can have over 800,000 submissions (to the top 14 search engines responsible for 85% of the internets sales) a month using a certain SEO companies DIP package. They even had a lot of 1st spot rankings for terms that have 600+ competing websites. Good ****

yup, i think doing directory submission really help to get better place in search engine and page rank.

I was doing it for one of my website, about the last month. Since, im doing it manually i just get about 50 links been approve. So, my website for this month seem to be improved in search engine compare to last month.

Assuming that there were the same number of links on each page, one link at a given PR is about five times more valuable than a link that's one PR less.

For example, if a PR6 page has your link on it with four others, that link is worth about five times more PR-wise than a PR5 page with your link and four others, or 25 times more valuable than a PR4 page with your link and four others.

That being said, I agree with Robin. Every link is a good link, and the small PR links could grow larger over time.

There is a reason behind having both High PR and Low PR directories. Chances of acceptance in low PR directories are very high and would surely as the PR increases in future it would benefit you, as far as High PR is concern normally approval period is anything between 2 weeks to 4 weeks if submitted if right manner changes are high - but also depends on quality of site.

Regards

Submit to as many as possible because their PR will grow over time and so will your sites PR. Plus, if you get 3-4 links on high end PR7-8 then its not worth as much as having a lot of little backlinks that with time will grow and give you much more.
