Everyone says that linking is important, it is but so is the linking strategy. Links must seem natural, serach engines prefer these types of links and if too many links appear too soon the site can be penalised and sand boxed. Some links will be ignored for quite a while by the engines but can still bring traffic to your site. It is also true that on topic links will carry more weight when your site is indexed by the search engines. So when linking remember that it is not only the links but the type that count.

Yeah too many links pointing to a site in a short period of time will negatively affect the site but only if the domain is new as for old domains it is just all right to get the backlinks. Also getting relative links is better if compared to other links but if you get .edu or .gov links which have just got nothing to do with your site but still they will be more valuable than those relative links to your site.

I don't agree with this. I've run many websites and been able to get them to the top 10 within a month and pagerank 4 or higher. The anchor text is really important as well as the topics from the page that is incoming. Pagerank as well. If you are able to get an anchor text stating your keyword as well as a few upper pageranks you should have no problem in the first month or two.

Wrong with your last statement , Acocrding to Matt cutt , .edu or .gov links are no more better than .com links

Think of every site that comes in to be completely balanced. If you give .org or .edu sites better rank then guess what you will have big problems. I see some guy selling university links for 45 dollars and it looks sketchy. This is why they can't do it. It would cause huge problems with fraud etc.

I believe this sandbox is a myth and I also believe much more of the crap I read is a myth and it's almost as if people write it on purpose to stop people from attempting things.

I've brought plenty of brand new sites up in the search engines fast with many links in so maybe these people feeling this sandbox effect should focus on content and realize you can't get up in the search engines by spamming.

Get quality links.

However, USUALLY .edu and .gov are authority domains, so MOST OF THE TIMES, they are better than .com links. It is not because of their TLD, but because they are USUALLY much more authoritative.

If you read Matt cut , he also said that paid links are no more valueable so i don't think .edu or .gov will give you link unless you pay to them

Relevancy is more valueable than PR

1 Relevant link is better than 100+ Irrelevant links

I overloaded a site with too many links that I thought I had SEOed pretty good. It took almost a year to even be given a page rank.

Out of curiosity, are you posting this same paragraph on multiple forums just to get traffic to your sig link?

I wouldn't get too many at one time... but don't feel too bad about it if you happen to get several because you are creating good content and others are linking to you.

THe biggest thing google doesn't seem to like is what they call "link schemes" i.e. spammmy type things you do to get tons of links overnight...

I use a lot of social networking and bookmarking things with my sites - so I typically generate hundreds of links per day - and they don't seem to mind...
