Dear All,

I have recently setup a new website, at loaandeft.com. It is a site based on the law of attraction (as seen in the movie, The Secret), and EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques). I entered my site for submission to Google on Tuesday (12th June), and I found it was in their index on Saturday (16th June).

In order to research my site's listings I downloaded a keyword research tool called Web CEO (websiteceo.com). This tells you your page ranking for certain terms. To my surprise, my ranking for the term "law of attraction" wasn't even listed! I have about 19 references to this term in the content body, and also refer to it in the title tag, and description meta. So why isn't my site showing up at all for this? Similarly, I have used the word "EFT" about 45 times in the body, yet it fails to show up in Google for this term.

When I search for other terms, like "loa and eft" (which comes up in the number 1 spot) my website lists, but not for "law of attraction" and "EFT". This is important because I think lots of people search for these terms.

I was thinking it could be because there are roughly 2,770,000 sites listed for "law of attraction", 13,700,000 for "EFT" and only 67,700 for "loa and eft". But still, not to get a listing at all on "law of attraction" and "EFT" (according to Web CEO anyway), is a bit confusing.

Any ideas as to why this is, and how to improve my listing?

One more thing, why hasn't Google indexed all the pages of my website? It seems to have done about half. I even submitted a sitemap to 'Google Webmaster Tools'.

Cheers guys,

Joe

Joe it is because you do not have any inbound links. You will only improve your ranking by obtaining quality inbound links and you will have to be patient.

Again because you do not have any inbound links. Googles frequency and depth of spidering is mostly a function of PageRank which in turn is a function of the number and quality of your inbound links.

Michael (or anyone else),

If I have inbound links to pages that are on my site but is not the home page, does that count?

Inbound links that are not to the home page are called "deep links" and yes they are just as important.

If it really is to do with not having good quality sites linking to me, then why does Google list my site for certain phrases such as "loa and EFT" & "eft mental illness", and not "law of attraction" or "eft"? Google seems to be selective as to which terms my site will show up on.

Because longer-tail search terms have less stringent ranking requirements

Yes, this is your basic problem. Google does not associate "LOA" with "law of attraction" because there are far more common concepts associated with LOA and EFT. You will come up high on searches for "loa" + "EFT" because there are very few sites using this combination. However, unfortunately for you, there are very few people submitting this combination to the Google search engine. "Law of Attraction", on the other hand, is a popular and competitive keyword combination which other sites have optimized for. Lots of backlinks would help, but you have some very stiff competition. Check out google.com/trends to verify the popularity of your selected keywords.

Hope this helps,
Rich

Laws of attraction was a movie. Have fun ranking for that one.

Thanks for your replies.

I just thought that having about 50 uses of the word EFT in the main content would score me quite highly on the search results for "eft". Obviously not then?

even you have 1 million eft words-phrases on your website without any external link to that word-phrase, spiders will not know.

What you have to do is try to have external links to your website with that word. The more external links the better.

example one external link here:

EFT <-- now you do have 1 external link if anyone ever click here

So if I don't have "external links to your website with that word" (e.g. <a href = "myWebsite">EFT</a>, but just have normal external links (e.g. <a href = "myWebsite">A cool new website</a>), will that improve my rankings for "EFT" and "law of attraction"?

Joe,

The only reasonable way to improve a specific keyword is to get quality inbound links from other sites. This could include link exchanging, buying links, getting links from friends, etc.

This would help your ranking for EFT:
Code:
<A HREF="http://www.loaandeft.com/">EFT</A>
This would help your ranking for LOA:
Code:
<A HREF="http://www.loaandeft.com/">LOA</A>
This would help your ranking for Law of Attraction:
Code:
<A HREF="http://www.loaandeft.com/">Law of Attraction</A>
A basic inbound link, like:
Code:
<A HREF="http://www.loaandeft.com/">Check out this neat site!</A>
will really only get you traffic..

As Rob said though, a few posts back, it'd be best to go after small fish right now, aka long tail search terms

For example: laws of attraction techniques, loa tips, laws of attration tips, etc.

EFT and LOA are ridiculously harder to rank for, due to the fact their not exact, and could even stand for other things..
