Is it possible to get some search engine traffic for my site which has little written content but a relatively high number of referral links and forum discussion?

The site in question is the one in my sig and I can't even think of any suitable keywords as it hasn't been done before as far as I know.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Your site is in a very bad situation because you only have one page, little textual content, and most importantly your not targeting any keywords. I would say in your present situation, no, you can't get any substantial traffic from search engines. All those links on forums will do is boost your pagerank, they won't help you rank for any keywords so you won't get any traffic.

Your best bet for traffic would be through social networks. I see your site hasn't had many stumbles, you might want to try some exchanges.

However, If you are still determined to get SE traffic you will need to research keywords and then optimize your site with them, and then get tons of links out with your new keywords.

I disagree, I think you are in a great position... here are my reasons why...

You could EASILY create a nice widget that displays a users stats on how people rate them, make widgets for myspace, facebook, wherever you can make widgets then of course add a nice backlink in your widget and make it easy for people to grab the code and add it to there blogs, myspace, etc etc... you have a chance of generating some really high quality backlinks as well as pure referrals from interest

having all those backlinks wouldn't do anything unless he was targeting a set of keywords, except increase pagerank - and he's trying to find out if he can get any traffic from the SEs.

Pick a keyword that you want to target and get some backlinks with those keywords as the anchor text.

add more content to your site, if possible make it a content-rich site. Do join social networks and make a links to your site, find the best keyword as possible.

While I guess I'm just too old to see the value in these types of sites, I know that people use them constantly. You have something that seams unique. I like the idea of utilizing facebook with it.

If you use the right keywords as your anchor texts for your link building schemes, you would be able to rank in SERP. But as far as SE bots are concerned, they won't stay long in your site as you need more text contents and on-page optimization.

it seems like you site is about people impression or face. so why not target long term keyword for that words. do some research on that. then when you get some good phrase put some content using that phrases. you got a good ideas actually. so why not make something out if it.

Thanks guys, I havn't done much with this site in the last month and still people keep trickling in and signing up.
I do actually have a widget for myspace profiles/forum sigs, I need to finish the facebook app though.
So I need to target a keyword in order to then make money from targeted ads? How about 'first impressions'?
