I just had to post this...

I received an email today from a competitor who is trying to do some link trading/building. The emails provide the anchor text for the link (very competitive keyword) and the URL to be used. They appeared to have outsourced this project to an overseas vendor.

The English in the request is shaky, but the real problem is that there is a typo in the URL used for the mail merge. This means that everyone who is getting an email requesting they link to mysite.com is actually getting requests to link to mystie.com

Guess who just bought mystie.com and redirected it to their own site.

:innocent:

What's to prevent them sending another corrected email?

Anyways, have you received many hits on the typo domain yet?

AH that is bloody good! I mean splash on a bucket of guts with it, including that fist sized gallstone!

Awesome. Almost free advertising.

I would love to hear how much you got out of it.

I have seen something similar with missing .com at the end, so there was no way to get it...

The email was so poorly composed that I don't expect to get much out of it. And for whatever reason, I'm on their target mailing list so if they send a corrected email, I'll probably get that too. Just thought it was a funny story.

Traffic is traffic where every it comes from and with the price of domains these days it's hardly going to bankrupt you if you get nothing from it.

Very funny story Rob
Either that or I've just got a sad sense of humor

My current business has been inundated with the overseas "BPOs." In an industry where grammar, punctuation and just general English skills are necessary, it's annoying to get countless e-mails and phone calls from people who seem to have none of the above and sprinkle business solicitations with chat room abbreviations like "r" for are, "u" for you and the like. My delete key for both voice and e-mail has been used generously the last couple of years.

Interesting thing! Wonder how many such blunders would have benefited small niche domains.. :-P

Humour is just as essential as every other thing in life, so lets take it in the light sense and 'LOL' about it!
