Is alexa ranking a reliable measurement in determining traffic of a website? Is there any other similar traffic ranking tool on the net?

Err isnt your position on the search engines the best ranking too you can use ?

No alexa isnt accurate, because it can be manipulated !

there is only one reliable "tool" for determining traffic ...

... and that is your own site logs.

Not really, it only measures the incoming traffic with alexa toolbar in browser only.

Yeah, it is very inaccurate. Because of the type of members I attract, almost no one that visits my site has some form of alexa installed. I have noticed though that since I have been here it has jumped up more than usual, probably because more people here have the toolbar installed, and some have visited my site to review it.

Alexa Ranking can be manipulated very easily.... If you install the Alexa tool bar and keep visiting your site, you will see that you can manipulate it. I trust compete.com before Alexa.

Compete is just as bad as Alexa. They both can be manipulated very easily...its just based on visiting your site with the toolbar installed. Technorati ranking is the same way...People do friend exchanges all of the time and never even visit each other's sites.

Like Chris said....the only accurate thing is your own site log.

Come on Chris, he wouldn't care if his logs show 1,000,000 hits per day....
What good does it make if no one can see it and Alexa doesn't show them

Alexa as useless as they come.
I would trade 1 point in Alexa for 1,000 visits any time.
So fruck Alexa and start worry about getting more visitors.

Well, I think we all agree that alexa is completely inaccurate, but since companies do use it, shouldn't we still attempt to get a good rating?

Its not accurate. Don't bother too much on your alexa rankings but be bother about your SERP rankings..

I agree with most posters here. Alexa is crap, but still a lot of people/companies think it's significant, so there's no harm in manipulating your rankings. I think quantcast is more important. I don't know about compete.
