Do you think directory submission helps in SEO? I am planning to get directory submission services. So please advise

Yes it is, but as what trilokidhaker said, it helps to improve your site's rankings at SEs.

Do not go to made on it.

Submit to one or two top directories, DMOZ and Yahoo.

But I dont think that submitting your site to 1000s of directories actually has any long term benefits. Only submit to ones that might bring some traffic to your site, and work on getting quality links to your site, in order to improve your SEO.

I like to call them base links. Not worth worrying about... but they are worth having if your link building. A links a link ...

directories are only beneficial if they are quality directories. DMOZ and Yahoo are probably two of the best ones. BOTW is another good one. Make sure you dont submit to to many directories to fast because then Google might think you are spamming and you could get sandboxed. Remember, quality not quantity!

"Google" has no idea and doesn't "care" how many or how quickly you submit to directories.
Do you think they monitor every submission form on every directory out there or something??

i think directory submission is beneficial for your site but in Submission time you need right (relevant) category.

Everything depends on the quality of the directory.
If you are submitting to a directory that is already a link farm, then you would not get benefited at all.

It helps a lot. But there are more bad directories than good ones. So if you choose the good directories well, it can help to boost PR.

whoa...so directories really don't help then...better rethink and replan SEO workbooks everywhere...
