crap for users which should be the MAIN concern. very confusing to click a different link and end up in the same place.

SE won't care.

Just the usual stupidity of so-called SEOs getting the cart before the horse and considering users last!!

i dont think it's bad but it has no use in the page. you can still include it there but in your content or alt text in images
