If you can't promote ONE site, how do you expect trying to promote two would help???

Blogs are not essential to building traffic to your site.
If you must have a blog, the first tip is to write good, interesting posts. Write for the readers, not the spiders.
Tip two--Stay away from keyword stuffing, it will only annoy readers. And it won't really help you out.

i believe blogs helps a site to rank because blogs indexes faster than sites and most people read blogs than the site itself.

A blog can increase site popularity if there are quality and unique content in it, if keywords are well targeted in a blog its helps in getting extra backlinks. It could be a link building strategy if you include the link of your main site directly to it.
Post your blog on a regular basis so as visitors will always get something new to read. Name your blog with the same name as your business so that visitors can see the connection. Avoid overselling, as it will dramatically reduce the number of your blog readers.
A blog is an excellent tool for additional web site traffic, get new newsletter subscribers and sell more products. Use your blog to introduce potential customers to your business.

Hi Ethan,
If you can provide content that people are interested in, then sure a blog can draw lots of traffic to you. Blogs are also good for creating lots of "long tail" search pages. But I think the most powerful thing a blog can do is to let you start conversations with your customers, to really get to know them and understand what they care about.
But just having a blog won't necessarily help you, unless you can do one of those three things.

blog serves as a link bait or a preview of what you have to offer to your targeted traffic it is helpful if your site is new and has a few backlink, blog gives quality backlink and rank much better in serp because of its article content.

What a load of ill-informed DRIVEL!!!!
If you can't promote ONE site to be a "quality" site, how the **** do you think you can promote a "blog" to be a "quality" site as well.
Just more of the TVaddicts nonsense advice!!!!

Well, first off, most large blog sites are owned by the likes of Google. The idea of the rumour about blogs helping your page rank higher is the concept where if you have a blog that is closely associated with your site by the way of links it will help you rank higher etc..
The reality is the content is crawled and re-indexed more regularly because it is strongly associated with Google's of the world. Their motivation is the leverage their SERPs to make blogger more popular and increase shareholder value.
The bottom line is that people write blogs to make back links to their website, but the real winner here is the free content that blogger can claim ownership to and their large audience because of their crawling/indexing association.
Just 2 bits...

If your blog have a lot of visitor due to regularly updated with a good content you can drag "little" visitor to your main website but blending the link in your post.

He did not say anything about having 2 websites. You can have a blog on the same domain as your website.
As far as optimization goes, or getting additional traffic, this is a fact. In regards to rankings, it depends on how often you update your site and how often the spiders come by. Also how much qaulity content you have.
Basically search engines love fresh content. This is why blog website do so well on search engines. If the author can post often enough, they can hold higher rankings for a shorter period of time then a static and stale website. But the content gets pushed down and archived into the site, so it only last for a short period of time.
Here is an article I wrote on the topic " Search Engines Love Fresh Content".
Last year I did an experiment with a highly modified wordpress blog. I was chasing the keyword phrase "make money blogging". I posted everyday for a couple of months and sometimes 2 or 3 posts in a day. I alternated the post times (in the day) and I used DUPLICATE content. I used free articles from free article websites. The experiment was a success and I was able to climb to the frontpage up to spot 6 and found myself adjusting from the second page to the front page daily. I was alternating because my content was changing. The frontpage of my site was the page that returned. I had beaten 27 million webpages.
This site is http://www.smartnerd.com
At the sametime, I had another site doing something similiar. This time the site had no content theme. We posted news that had happened the day before after the rest of the world had posted about it. Same thing happened except we did not hold top rankings on the subject matter but we did bring in traffic about the article and we still do today, although it is a dead site. Only on the pages that we seperately went out to the net and got links inbound to via craigslist. We would post in the local news sections where those news headlines took place.
We found that a site completely themed worked for industry keywords worked better for rankings then a site that changed the topic everyday. Which we knew would be the case all along, but we wanted to see if we could still rank with duplicate content.
This second site is http://news.stanthedevil.com

Somewhat of a mixing up of cause and effect.
New pages on any site have always appeared high in the rankings for search words/phrases when they first appear in the index. It is not a new phenomenon or something that only started with the advent of "blogs" and it is not because SE "love" fresh content or news.
It's simply because the page is new and hasn't been fully analysed as to where it should be in the grand scheme of things.
Nothing special. Nothing magical. Just normal behaviour.

I am not talking about a new page. I am talking about the front page of a blog, which is not new if it has already been found and indexed.
It is getting more attention since it is ever changing.
