Does anyone know if flash elements on a site or page present any problems to search engines finding that page? I've been getting conflicting information from various web designers.

Yes it definitely does. Search engines cannot read flash so using it for essential elements such as navigation bars or headers (or for the entire site) will seriously harm your site in search engines.

I recommend only using it for presentational features that users with flash enabled will see and use plain HTML for navigation bars and the main content of a page. This will allow search engines to crawl your site and index all of the content, helping it in the rankings.

It doesn't provided that there is an alternative ( links with a standard href attribute ) navigation method.
