Temporary Redirect from subdomain to main domain?

OK, let me start out with what I am trying to do.

I am doing my first live event on my site and I plan to do more in the future.

I have created a page on my site (linuxloop.com/somepage.shtml) for this specific live event.

Now I want to set up live.linuxloop.com to redirect to the current or future live event. In other words, live.linuxloop.com will always be a redirect, but not necessarily to the same page.

From my searching, I believe that a temporary redirect is the correct type, however I have also read that search engines will view a temporary redirect from one site to a different site as a permanent redirect.

My question is, are live.linuxloop.com and linuxloop.com viewed as different sites in this case?

If they are, what should I do?

Thanks!

linuxloop.com is a main domain and the other is a sub-domain you can use a meta refresh in a html file for a redirect:

<meta http-equiv="REFRESH" content="X;URL=yourpage.html">.

Where x is seconds in delay before redirect.

Thanks. One more question, though. What effect would that have on a search engine?

A meta refresh of 1 second or less is theoretically handled as a 301 and above 1 second is handled as a 302.
I haven't tested this in a long while so can't vouch for that being accurate at the present time.

For your purpose a temporary redirect would be the right one, though I would consider including the page into the sub-domain so the URI is always live.domain a better option.
