I found this interesting but maybe only because I'm an SEO newbie. I hope this doesn't bore you gurus.
Seems like I read almost everywhere that your PR needs to be higher and Alexa Rank lower and you have to get tons and tons of backlinks and improve onpage optimization, and so on, all so you can get a better search engine rank.
So, I did a quick and simple analysis of the top 10 sites for one of my keywords: (no, I did not use a crayon when I did this)
Google Rank - Google PR - Alexa Rank - Linking In - Keyword in Title?
1 5 2,235 4,630 yes
2 5 396,245 113 no
3 7 67,623 478 no
4 0 64,572 970 yes
5 4 31,430 282 no
6 7 50 16,995 yes
7 (dead link!) 3 9,288 950 no
8 4 58,084 705 yes
9 4 190,663 236 yes
10 4 6,589 49 yes
Also, something I noticed, all of these sites were not top level domain url's, rather interior pages. I think that's important since my site focuses in on the subject.
I know there are other factors to consider. But with this short analysis, there really is no rhyme or reason with PR, Alexa rank, IBL, or Title Desc.
Or content for that matter. I checked out each site and, I thought, some had very good content and others, as Borat would say, "eh...not so good" . Topping the bad content list was site #7, which was actually a dead link. That was surprising.
I do believe, however, that content is the ultimate trumpcard. Having good content, or a good user experience , is what gives high conversions. Of course, you've got to first get the traffic to have conversions.
So, all this being said, does anyone have thoughts to add or other things I should be looking at with these top 10 sites?
