A site I was making for a client somehow made it onto Google a few weeks ago. I know that I didn't submit the URL, and my client says he hasn't either.

Could it be that it just somehow got added automatically?? After all, I was testing it on a live server.

Another thing, I submitted the URL to google yesterday since the website is now finished. However, its still the 'old' content that appears in Google's search results, even pages that aren't even on the server anymore.

Does anyone know how long it would take to sort itself out and 'update' the results? Or if it actually will??

Your all previous data disappears from the search engine result pages when Google indexed new pages. Presently it show the history or we can say the last indexed results and status of the website.

You don't have to submit to Google in order to get listed.

Give it a bit of time, and Google will update... you just can't be sure when.

You need some more links to get the site crawled a bit more often, "submitting" a site that has already been indexed will do absolutely diddly squat, mind you, submitting a site that hasn't been indexed will have exactly the same effect.

Even if you don't create a single link to your site, Google will find you through the name servers most times.

Exactly, it is like there is no where to hide.
Next time, I suggest you edit your robots.txt to prevent Google from ndexing your site before it is ready.

You can update your site map and resubmit that to Google. Supposedly that sends a spider sooner.

Im not too sure what you mean by adding more links? Do you mean like having multiple links to the same pages? Such as including links in paragraphs?

My friend had experience the same situation in different scenario. He made a blog, he let it there, posting there regularly (just posting!), after 2 weeks (6 posts; he posted 3x a week!), his blogs appear in google!
