Ok, I already know that most of the people on here think that meta keywords are a waste of time but my question is do the meta keywords play a factor when calculating the keyword density of a page/site?

Not really no. But it is worth including meta keywords in my opinion, as there is some evidence that Yahoo! and some of the other nonGoogles have some use for them, albeit mainly in quite graphic-heavy pages.

I also find it quite helpful to have them just as a reminder as to which keywords you are optimizing for on which page - if no other reason

the meta keyword has its own density. The content as well.

let's say you search the density of "keyword" on your website, it could be 25% in your meta keyword and 2,4% in your content.

A: enough said about meta keywords already.

B: there is no such thing as a numeric constant of "keyword density"

Z: given that Search Engines don't really use meta keywords and "keyword density" is just another myth. Why would you think that something that ISN'T used would affect something that doesn't actually exist?

Keyword stuffing is a really bad practice. I use a few strategies (I'm no guru).
I use the most relevant keywords (no more than three one word keywords if I can help it). Then I use a few broader 2 word phrases that people would most likely use when searching for my content. Then I practice the same for a few 3 word phrases. I do the 2 and 3 word phrases broad since my site is so new. It helps get you traffic. Maybe not always targeted but traffic is traffic and book marks are bookmarks and backlinks are priceless. Just my thoughts...KK

I'm with you on this one...search engines will read meta and compare to your content.

They may not have the same value as they once did but they are still important. I wonder if the keyword tag is still in place just to test what people will do, like stuffing?

Interesting question, and here's why....

there's a lot of well known SEOs that say there is no such thing as keyword density - so that's really going to confuse most people

Theoretically eveyone who mentions keyword density is wrong

Actually here's a link about it from someone I picked wits with recently
http://www.hobo-web.co.uk/seo-blog/i...sity-seo-myth/

It contains quotes like
Quote:
the truth is simply that modern search engines have never used keyword density
enjoy.

If you leave a comment on the blog tell Shaun that James says "Hi"

That's not what I said.

SEs will not read meta keywords for most of them.
They won't "compare" it to content. They are treated individually if they are at all.
