I came across that thread in another forum and thought it was interesting:

Would a link with no text generate any link juice? For example:

[a href="http://www.abc.com"][img height="0" width="0"][/a]

any ideas?

it would pass PR for Google but no ranking value.

thousands of them might give a bit of a nudge for Yahoo!

and it would get the pages crawled

Hmm, might be a good idea. On second thought, google may be smart enough to realize that a blank link like that probably isn't too trustworthy.

You are kidding, right?

Hidden links (which is what they are) is ABSOLUTELY THE oldest trick in the book, you might get away with the odd one or few on your pages where you are linking a logo set as a background or similar design techniques, BUT, there will be a line drawn somewhere and it will be the site carrying the hidden links on it's pages that will be banned.

Quote:
Hidden links are links that are intended to be crawled by Googlebot, but are unreadable to humans because:

* The link consists of hidden text (for example, the text color and background color are identical).
* CSS has been used to make tiny hyperlinks, as little as one pixel high.
* The link is hidden in a small character - for example, a hyphen in the middle of a paragraph.
I would say that a 0px x 0px image definitely falls into the last category.

It's not called cloaking - cloaking means returning entirely different content to human visitors and search engines.

This is especially interesting

because I saw a blog the other day that linked periods and commas. For a split second I wondered why they were doing that, and then I realized, it had to be some type of mistake, a bad WSYWIG or something. Then I realized, the author must think it's some kind of loophole in the hidden links law.
