I heard that having a dedicated IP address can boost your rankings a bit but I dont know if its by much.

Some hosts offer a dedicated IP address for a few extra dollars a month so I was wondering if (all things being equal) it was worth it for SEO alone.

Yeah. I was just running some Google searches to learn more about Windows Communication Foundation, WCF. I need to learn how automatic XML serialization works in this context, and the difference between the ISerializable interface and DataMember and DataContract attributes.

Based on what I'm looking for, it's obvious how a dedicated IP address would make certain text (hosted on given pages aka URLs) more relevant to my question. Not in the least. The text either tells me what I'm looking for, or it doesn't. Where it's hosted doesn't matter.

Now if you're on a shared IP with 400 other sites and 90 % of them are doing really bad stuff, it's conceivable you could be hit with a penalty. But that's almost certainly not the case. And having a unique IP won't give you anything extra beyond normal.

Dedicated IPs are more for private SSL certificates or pointing subdomains to other servers...
The one thing it CAN affect is your spam ratings- if everyone on your IP spams you're likely to get blacklisted

IF you have many sites and they are all inter linked separate ip address could help you out. IF you use a domain that cant be tracked back to your name like .ca

It is less risk, some times search engine may penalize an IP so if you have your own there is less risk.

Umm, please explain how your so called "name" can't be "tracked" if you use the Canada cc-TLD extension?

Search engines don't "penalise" IPs. They are perfectly aware that a single IP can be home to hundreds of sites.
