This doesn't just apply to the SEO forum, by any means. I spend most of my time in the code forums, and the problem is exactly the same. Let me tell you, I didn't learn what I know from forums. In fact, although I learn by getting to know the people here, and really learning who is an expert in what, I learn more by finding answers for people here, because I know where to research and what to look for.

To get good at anything in the computer field, especially the online one, it definitely helps to be "snoopy".

Oh it's definitely not just the SEO forums. In fact I could sooner forgive some SEO questions because of all the misinformation out there.

I learn by finding answers too. I actually found forums by first asking questions of search engines. Often enough the results returned one of more forum posts.

Apparently if you put optimization in your keyword meta tag and in your url you will rank well in se with plenty of backlinks anyway

About as vague as some of the questions and as accurate as a number sigs in practucally every forum

I'm starting to like this thread so much, and this thread, i wish they would both be made into stickies. It is unfortunate, as Steven pointed out above, that there is so much misinformation about this subject. I still struggle to unlearn some of the bad information that I learned earlier in my career. What a shame.

Isn't optimisationalism when you write post titles for the purpose of tricking people into clicking on them and then disappointing readers with your content?

I totally agree. SEO is the art of tricking Google into thinking you are actually saying something, when in fact you are speaking gibberish. This is especially effective when all you are interested in is having people click on your Adwords advertisements, since the gibberish immediately deflects people away from your site.

***EDIT***
Oops, wrong thread. Again! However do I keep doing that!?

Forums are great places to learn, get traffic and backlinks. Just be careful whose advise you take. It's not all good advise.

Does anyone know what Williams syndrome is? A less technical term is blathering idiot.

Quote:
Individuals with Williams syndrome are highly verbal and sociable, but lack common sense and typically have low intelligence. The condition has been contrasted with autism, who lack social interests. Individuals with WS hyperfocus on the eyes of others in social engagements.
