I wonder if posting in yahoo groups do have any effect in optimizing my keyword targets or is it just for backlink points??

Nope! If it's NOT on YOUR site it's NOT optimising!

It's just for spamming backlinks.

^^^he's right... even though you joined a group, the only thing that you''ll be doing is to promote your site, and that can be called spamming. but numerous groups on yahoo allows you to post your ads, url's jsut to obtain great backlinks for a website...

Any links that you yourself put out there is not classed as optimizing. The only backlinks that are there as a result of optimizing are the ones that you naturally recieve for having good content to link back to

yup, it does help too as it sends traffic to your site if your site is being click.

In terms of traffics, no, i didn't find it effective. (It might drive traffics but very minimal only)

well, instead of gaining from it, what I gain was more head aches. try joining one yahoo group, send one message and receive hundreds of repeatedly sent messages....

Yup, you're right buddy...it just drive a minimal traffic and it is only meant for traffic, nothing more..

I agree It's more of BL than traffic.... but doing groups is better than not joining one

Apart from the minor point that you have to login with a username and password to actually see the posts in most groups.
The only thing a crawler gets to see is the front page for the group.

Aren't the links posted in Yahoo groups in a nofollow attribute?

I think Yahoo Groups use nofollow. If you are using it for backlinks, then there is no use with it.
