Hi,

I'm new to the forums and pretty new to S.E.O. aswell. I was wondering if you could help me with something. As an example, we have a company with COMPANY.COM, the company want a blog, what differences, pluses and negatives are there to these 3 options in terms of search engine rankings?


1. Hosting the blog at COMPANY.COM/BLOG

2. Hosting the blog at BLOG.COMPANY.COM

3. Hosting the blog at COMPANYBLOG.COM


The main reason behind wanting to know, is that the first option (obviously the most ideal) may not be possible, so I want to know which of 2 or 3 is best and how it compares to option 1.

anything OTHER than option 1 means the "blog" will require a separate marketing campaign or extra work to market TWO sites.


BTW it makes ZERO difference for SEO because optimising pages is optimising pages no matter where they reside.

During the Las Vegas Pubcon Matt Cutts did mention that sub-domains and sub-directories would be treated the same. This means that unless there is a noticable different in content\subject they will be considered the same.
