I think being your site listed in top 1 ranking has many disadvantages. One of them is your site is prone to duplicate content since more people could copy your site's content. There will be also some competitors who will try to use your site's techniques just to let you down..

But I think the advantages of being number one in serp over weighs its disadvantages. So I still want to get the highest ranking in serp and accept the risk. That's a business and has great challenges to face...

I will still aim to make my site be in top one ranking, because I know that a site may get the highest chances or percentage to be clicked and visited by potential customers. This is because most visitors prefer to visit those sites that are listed in the highest position in serp.

I agree with you. Being the best also means being watched by others specially competitors. But what to do? It's a risk that have to be accepted. That's why you must always upgrade/ personalize your business/website, include new things so that you always be the best and can compete with your competitors.

Nope. Visitors would MUCH RATHER visit a page that has what they are LOOKING FOR, not some page just because it happens to be first.

Yes, I agree that most visitors prefer those sites that contain information they are needed.. But still they mostly first visit those sites that are listed in the highest ranking in serp..They just look for some other sites once they have not satisfied with the content of a site...

Don't use the same rubbish "techniques" as everyone else, and you won't have to worry about them being copied.

Do you really think that if you've managed to earn enough trust and authority to rank for any phrase of any competition, that you'll lose all of that when Google doesn't notice a Johnny Come Lately with your identical content?

If your idea is out there.. someone is going to try to steal it or improve upon it.. thats how the business world is.. that is what competition is. It isn't a disadvantage of being ranked high... it is the disadvantage of thinking of the idea first! lol

However, ranking high really does outweigh the risks. Trust me, it will happen sooner or later that someone grabs your content or your idea...even if you aren't #1 in the SERPs

That would be great if you'll be on the top of a particular SE specially on Google...but you need to regular update to remain on top...

I do not understand what you are tring to say here. Is that sounding like billionaire have high risk than normal people have. Because they can be easily targeted by criminals.

Mate if you have the guts and quality to be at no 1 than I am assuming that you must have the capability to sustain as well.

Its always good to be on the top. If you are negative about it, sooner or later you will slip from that pos and need to spend again to reach there. The you may think about how bad it is not to be there

I think that much of xHTML optimization and other overhyped stuff is overrated, because Google might be keen on quality content. So it would bring nothing to copy the content, but penalties, when it is the structure of the content and the comprehensiveness that bring the good positions in SERPS.

Being no 1 is a great achievement! but if you run a business and can't convert visitors into paying customers there's little benefit and also visitors would visit a page that has what they are really looking for.

I agree pow-wow but sometimes you need to be number one to get those paying customers especially if you are number 2 or below and your competition is number one and getting most of your sales.

Yes but if you have the best content in town and you are consistently on page 10 because you never worried about building links, you would not get any traffic.

Please copy my site content if my site ever rise to the top position in a search engine. I won't mind being the leader of the packs even at the extent of being copied. After all, it only means that my contents are very good !
