Hi, it seems Directory Submission is not so popular as it has been in the past few years. How is it going now? I heard somebody said that "Directory Submission is dead". Is that true? However, I don't think so. For I find the directory submission is still working on my own site.. What are your opinions about it ???

I think its more of a case of having to be more careful about which directories you submit to, and because of the huge surge of people creating bad directories links from certain directories were given less importance (not all of them and this is only speculation on my side).

Bare in mind too, that not all fo your links should be in directories.

if you spend a lot of time submitting your sites to directory, the worse thing that can happen is that you wasted a lot of time.
In the best case, it will provide you some backlinks (not relevant high quality backlinks but backlinks nevertheless) and it might drive some traffic to your website. (don't count on it too much though)

My advice would be: If you have some spare time, you could give it a try, if you are busy, focus on more important tasks.

It is certainly not as powerful as it once was, but I have gotten some incredible ranking in Yahoo as a result of directory submission. *hint hint.

It depends. Many people have created Link Directories thinking they can make buck. This has saturated the directory market with PR0 directories. Placing a link to your website on thousands of these PR0 link directories will hurt you.

In my opinion directory submission is still important. But its better to submit in quality web directories. Lots of directories are useless.

There is still some directory that is worth your time. Though like other said it won't hurt to submit your site to a directory every now and than

directory submission has a lesser weight but still it is helpful in targeting your keywords and traffic gaining!

I still think there is a little value there. But there is more value in "directory-type" sites that are relevant to your service/product that have "useful resources" sections and "industry links" that you may be able to be listed on.

Yeah its almost died now and credit of this goes to the automatic submission of websites. Now within 1 hour you will be able to submit your websites to almost 500 directories and because of this Google is now giving credit to those directories which have some value.

So if you want to use any directory submission service than make sure that he is using manual submission only and also at SEO friendly directory.

kinda curios cause I haven't really notice anything from directories for some of my sites... how do you find out if directories are contributing for your sites?

i looks like its so. Especially since Google has removed a point about submission to quality directories like yahoo and dmoz.

Look at your stats and see where people are coming from. If you use analytics, you can see how many visitors found you with referring sites, search engines or direct traffic. Then you have the details for each category.

On some point, you're right... Submitting to directories sucks but like some professionals point of view "Every task is important for SEO, Patience is the key".

I agree, patience is something that every SEO must have.... doing the same thing over and over can be boring, but the results are worth it....
