I have found that when checking out directories I'm potentially interested in submitting to, sites for marketing, etc., an element I always want to know is if the page is cached by Google. So, I copy the URL, open a new Firefox tab, type google.com, and enter the cache search for that URL. Then I have to close the browser tab, and head back to where I was before.

This is the reason for the free Google Cache Checker extension for Firefox. The extension automatically checks visited pages to determine if the current page is Google cached. The result is immediately shown conveniently in the browser statusbar.

Sounds interesting. But I won't rely on its accuracy.

I still prefer the manual thingy. :P

It makes even the manual way more convenient because you can simply click the icon to open the Google search for the page cache in a new browser tab.

As a quick follow-up on this, I am seeking feedback from users to see if they'd like for the tooltip to show the cached date. The reason I am asking is because it is possible a speed decrease could result from the change for some users since the cache is being analyzed. However, in my testing, I was not able to see anything noticeable. What do you think?

Note: The extension has now been updated to include cache date on the tooltip. Built-in proxy support has also been implemented to protect against loading many pages at one time. The new version can be downloaded from the same URL.
