hello,

I am n00b at SEO and looking for opinions on if this would help or hurt me.

I am building a few websites that have over 1000+ feeds and google gadgets. for each gadget and feed I plan on making some pretty big keyword lists using googles keyword tool. as long as the content and huge list of keywords match it shouldn't be flagged as some kind of blackhat technique and be X'd from there database or would it?

would it be better to cut down the list to have very related keywords or would it be better to have a very broad list with all matching keywords that the keyword tool makes?

If by keyword list, you intend a keyword meta tag, it doesn't matter as Google ignores it.
If you are talking about how many keywords to target for a page, I would stick with a very short list and very relevant keywords (around 3 to 5 key phrases per page)

Are you planning on just dumping these words (randomly) on the page?

I don't think the real question (not just in this situation - but always) is whether something could be seen as black hat (although "yer screwin wid me!" is never received well) or not. The question you need to answer is "Does this help people using this page?" Google isn't a search company, they're an ad company. They get to serve up most of their ads to people who use their search engine. They want to return good results for searches, so that people will continue to use their search engine, so that they'll continue to make money selling ads. If you produce useful (to humans) pages purely by means of black magic, they'll stay in the index.

as a footer might get you into some trouble.

all i can advice is just use the proper keyword that is appropriate to your content and place it in your title and meta tags and everything is fine. I also suggest that you use a tool the checks the density of words in your page to balance the right amount of keyword to use in your page.
