I have found a tool that measures the similar content between pages on my site - and am panicking at the high percentage rates - some as high as 42 % Others lower at 17 %. Does any one know what is considered an acceptable % by the search engines?

One of my problems I think is that each page has a the same navigation bar/ text list of 52 links to other pages who in turn has the same list of links. As I want the visitor to navigate everywhere from any page - I am not sure how to avoid this?

The actual content of the page is unique for each page!

You can't, that's what navigation is. Duplicated on every page JUST LIKE ALMOST EVERY OTHER SITE ON THE INTERNET!!!

Ignore the stupid tool, it's just another bunch of crap to convince you that you need "expert" help!

thanks, chrishirst! Appreciate your input - I do agree that sometimes it seems as if we are encouraged to panic about issues that are not issues at all!

With that in mind - do you have the same opinion about the panic I have read in some posts about the boilerplate issue - duplicate material appearing on each page like copyright notice, tag lines etc...

I am tempted to dismiss is - because if I don't = where does the issue end!!!!

Yikes!

I do actually.
There are times when the "boilerplate" text can bring in visitors and conversions. Copyright notices are very good for branding and determining localities.

If you are imaginative, anything can be turned to an advantage over "competitors", especially ones who are locked into a formulaic strategy.
