If "SEO relevance question" makes sense, what I mean is (as an example) I heard that if the main theme for your site is related to "car hire", to increase the relevance for your site for that term it could help putting "car hire, page name" in the title - putting the main search term or theme for the site on all the relevant pages followed by a comma then the page description.

I got told that (if your site were called www.acmecarhie.com) and you put into Google followed by the term or phrase you wanted your index page to be known for on SE's (such as car hire) such as:

site:www.acmecarhie.com car hire

Google will show all the pages in your site that it thinks are relevant to car hire within your site and that adding "car hire" into the title of these pages followed by a comma then the page description will increase the overal site or index page relevance for this search term.

so a page title could be, for example, "car hire, lexus car hire"
and "car hire, ford car hire"
and "car hire, car hire prices"

and so on

I have no idea if this is true or not and thought I would ask as I can't find an answer on the net.

If that question makes sense can anyone shed any light on this; is it correct or a load of rubbish?

I am not an SEO expert or anything so answers from people in the know would be appreciated.

Sounds like the usual crap from "experts"! Most of this drivel is based around one thing, getting adsense clicks.
The people who expound this "knowledge" don't really care about getting real visitors, well they do, but they also want them to leave just as quickly via an adsense advert, where they go isn't a factor just as long as they click they ad. So their goal is SE rankings with little consideration for getting qualified visitors.

The best thing for titles is to write them for users. Include the page key phrases in the title but make it a short legible sentence.

For search engines, "sites" don't have themes. SE index and rank pages.
