I have got anchors within my pages to ease navigation for the user, but I have just named them things like a, b, c etc to save on typing. Should I be giving them more descriptive names? Links to other pages are all either descriptive or with title tags, as I know this has an effect, but what about the anchor tag name within the same page?

anchor title ATTRIBUTES are not read by search engines, so have absolutely zero effect.

and named anchors are ignored completely by search engines.
