I read in several different sources that many parts of USA prefer to use Yahoo search as opposed to Google. I also know that Google is the #1 company in the world to work for, but personally i think Google is power-hungry and less focused on satisfying its users than Yahoo

. Anyways, my question is are the SEO tactics essentially the same for both Yahoo and Google search, or are there some fundamental important differences among the two?

If you mean the people hoping to use the search engine to make a quick buck, as opposed to the people typing search queries in to the web and hoping to not get a list of spam, then sure.

I think it is different. the ways on getting to google is mentioned a lot in this forum but I only know few for getting to yahoo

I have to say that google and Yahho are 2 different search engines and they have differnt algorithms and I believe that different SEO methods should be used there.

They differ slightly, but optimizing your site for google should bring you high results on Yahoo as well. Google uses partial matching of keywords, while Yahoo uses exact matching. Also Google ignores metatags and Yahoo doesn't. I hope this helps.

There is lot of change in Yahoo and Google Algorithm. The same keyword ranking on Yahoo and Google search engine are different.

been trying really hard to find ways aside from ^^ to get some pretty neat traffic from Yahoo but other Search Engines aside from Google can bring more traffic than it, YouTube can bring my sites more traffic than Youtube, we should all really study the SEs that we try to use first before optimizing for them, see which one would be worth the time optimizing our sites for.

yahoo is much easier to get into then google. And I think you can get a little more traffic from yahoo as well

Whether you like it or not, it's a fact that Google is the most used search engines.

Even if you don't like it, YOUR CUSTOMERS may be using Google.

I noticed keywords in the url make a bigger difference with Yahoo. Its been awhile since I even looked at Yahoo though...

if you take survey of 100 people, 90 people pref. google and 10 people will used yahoo to search. check it

Also, the top search results for 2008 on Google is very different from that of Yahoo. It seems like serious searches happen on Google, where as Yahoo searches are more about celebrities.

Yea, all these guys are and right. Yahoo and Google are different search engines, so what works in Google may not work in Yahoo. Just like if you search for one term in Google then that same term in Yhaoo the results will never be the same.

I consider them as the most popular and powerful search engines in the world. Yahoo and Google uses different algorithm in ranking websites in their result page. Because in my experience, Google and Yahoo shows different results when I typed a keyword or a phrase while doing a research.
