There isn't really software that does SEO for you, but there is software that you can use for research purposes and rank checking, but that's about it. SEO is about research and skill, not software.

Got it in one. If your just trying to get traffic and it's not returning, the odds are people just don't want to waste their bandwidth on you.

The best thing to do, if look at your content etc and ask yourself "will i want to read this?"

Sign in to Google, look at all their services. There are a bunch that are good for webmasters. Yahoo's site explorer is good to see your link backs.
