So say my (javascript based) WordPress logs. Anyone want to take a crack at explaining that? For starters, search engines don't count as visitors - but if you add up all the people who came my way via search terms, it comes to 200 or 250.

The other half or more of my visitors yesterday appear to be type ins and bookmarks? Two days ago, I've got lots of referrals from all types of web site, so the stats package isn't broken.

And, this isn't an urgent question - just a matter of curiosity. There's no profit motive behind my site, it's a place to vent, put ideas down "on paper" so I don't need to carry them around in my head, and, most of all, get a hands on feel for how information moves nowadays.

Some search engines might be able to trip the javascript. They don't do it well, but I think they can do some javascript. I'm not sure if it's enough to be counted as a visitor.

A certain amount are probably type ins and bookmarks, but I'd think that count would be similar to whatever you usually get, which I'm guessing isn't enough to account for the missing visitors.

Do your logs account for things like feeds? What I mean is do those usually show up as a referral? Could be people clicking on posts they're reading in a feed reader or maybe it's the automated feed grabbing, though that might not trip the javascript.

Not sure if any of the above is the answer, but it's what the top of my head could think of. The bottom of my head is still working on a possible answer.
