No there is no effect. 10 years ago spammers abused the hell out of this tag to the point that it could not be used effectively by search engines. These days you can get great rankings without even having a keywords tag.
i agreed because meta keywords are not that important to google. Just concentrate on your meta title and description. The use dkeywords on your meta title can also be use on your meta description to get rank in SE's

add your news keywords to you meta keywords and make sure you use these words in your website copy as well. Just remember that your keywords (new and old ones) should be relevant to your content
some of new keywords can be also included into your title
If you are talking about meta description and meta keywords then there will be no effect in ranking. Title tag is still valuable, so if you try to edit the keywords added in title, the effect will be on the ranking.
Adding new keywords may not effect your ranking. But it need now much keyword density on your partticular page. Whatever you adding new keywords it should he relevant to your old keywords as well as content of your site.
