Hi All, I received a mail form someone today wanting us to link to them in turn for another of their sites with a pr6 linking to us.

I had a question about this - after looking at some of their sub pages - some of them had a PR 0 (which i know Google's toolbar isn't a great indicator etc..) so if they put us on a page in their website with a pr0 would we see any benefit of their front page having a PR 6 or is it the top level page (as in the index) that counts - if you get my drift?

It probably is best to delete such e-mails. The people offering 3 way link exchanges are usually spammers. Expect them to remove the link shortly after.

In my opinion a PR0 link from a PR6 website can be helpful. Resource box links from ezinearticles.com is a perfect example of this. The link won't pass any PR, but it is still a link from a trusted domain. Plus it can generate some direct traffic since most PR6 websites have good traffic.

Assuming you are linked to some of their sub-page with good PR...if you link to them, then you will need to check on their site frequently to see that they don't drop your url from their page, because when they do so, it is you who have backlink to them and they have no links to you ! In this case, it won't will not do you good if can't keep track of what they are doing. You are just helping them get a good PR with your backlinks to them.
Be careful you are not linking to linkfarms !

I think you should forget about that PR thing when exchanging links. As far as I know, Google made a clear statement that webmasters and SEOs should forget about the PR of a website when exchanging links. What important is the content or the relevancy of the websites of their link partners. I mean, as long as your visitors will benefit from that links, then just do it.

you can trade links as long as relevant to your sites and has a descent content, PR doesn't make any changes at all...

we can't ignore PR in doing trade links. . . its been a habit! If you get a request mail like that again just simply ignore it.

Are you generalizing it? NOT all websites who offer 3 way link exchange do that one...

Every single link backs counts even if it is PR0.

for me link exchange is not anymore effect, so instead of wasting your time doing this why don't you focus yourself creating a quality and related back links.
