"Dynamic" pages have querystrings in the URI, "static" pages do not.

It is not always dependent on querystrings. A dynamic website might not use querystrings but instead pass variables via cookies, session variables, form data, etc. Querystring data can even be hidden via .htaccess url rewriting.

A dynamic website page is one that can change depending on certain criteria. The most common example of this is a search results page. The contents of that page will change depending on what you search for as well as ranking algorithm conditions. Another example is a product details page that loads its content from a database. This will vary depending on what's currently in the database.

A static website pages generally stays the same regardless of how you access the page. Usually these are .htm and .html pages...although pages with other extensions can be static too.

For Search Engines (this being the SEO forum) the ONLY indication that a site is "dynamic" are querystrings.

SEs do not "do" cookies, sessions or form data, so if a site relies on sessions or cookies to differentiate between pages, only the one page will ever exists, and pages that are behind forms will never be seen.

Google have a indexer/crawler system that can submit some types forms, but is not specially successful at the present so don't rely on it.

Static page means that the page contents such as images and text are typed DIRECTLY into codes and it only changes when webmaster do so.

Dynamic page displays the page content by requesting from a database or external source. In that manner, the page contents changes.

"Static" means unchanged or constant, while "dynamic" means changing or lively. Therefore, static Web pages contain the same prebuilt content each time the page is loaded, while the content of dynamic Web pages can be generated on-the-fly. Two of the advantages of dynamic web pages are:
  • Easy to maintain when a site gets large.
  • Easy to keep consistent and up to date.

Hello,

There is alot to be said about Static Vs. Dynamic webpages. I've done some Google research on your behalf regarding Static and Dynamic webpages. I felt this two websites break down the information in the easiest way to understand possible http://www.knightnet.org.uk/site-des...amic-pages.htm and http://www.robertz.com/WebDesign/Dyn...dStaticWeb.htm I hope I was helpful.

Dynamic pages are also know as fly pages and the record is added inside with the help of database. Its little difficult to work on-page optimization. But in the static pages, its very easy to work both on-page and off-page.

To complicate things a bit though....
You have;
* Absolute Static URLs
* Absolute Dynamic URLs
* Relative Static URLs
* Relative Dynamic URLs

(AS) http:// www. example .com/path.html
(AD) http:// www. expample .com/path.php ?user=john&lang=en
(RS) /path.html
(RD) /path.php?user=john&lang=en
