To Digg or Not To Digg. That is the question!

On a few occasions I have spent the time to put my website / articles on Digg. I have never used any of those shady services that drive up your Diggs. I would not consider such options anyway. It always bites you in the a$$.
My question:
How does one promote himself to Diggers?
Is it valuable?
My site really needs to be Dugg up! (link drop removed)

well to start with i wanted to make my site known, by digging articles from it. And after posting 3 articles from my site, my domain got banned from digg saying: Sensation.ws is violating the TOS of digg, by spamming.
I wrote them an email and they said it was because i linked the articles to my site. The digg article was from my site, and they consider that SPAMMING. LOL.
That kinda` sucks and i stopped using their services. It's a shame how big companies "s*c*r*e*w" small people like us.

Don't treat "digg" as yours to abuse in whatever way you think fit and you won't get banned.
It doesn't exist for you to spam link drop your own stuff!

Do the same here if you wish. AND you'll get banned even quicker

Dig is in no way a big company. It's just a handful of guys. You local McDonalds probably has twice the number of people working there

Digg was built by outsourcing freelancers for only a few thousand dollars, so it is absolutely correct that it is not a huge company. Brilliant idea however, and probably very profitable.

So in your opinion they screwed with you because they prevented you from manipulating their site and screwing with them. You do know the world doesn't revolve around you don't you?
I suppose when I installed an alarm in my home I screwed with your ability to rob me too.

Digg is useful, but I wouldnt count on it for your main source of advertising.

Just because something is popular doesn't mean it's BIG

I use Digg for my own articles and many others. I share out Digg between friends and contacts on there and they Digg my articles back.
It is a two way system. If you help others, they may help you.

Much agreed.
My thoughts are... How do people know about your site, if you do not advertise and tell them.
A Digg, here and there cannot hurt (IMO).... I believe its just a suggestive way of saying...
"Hey mate, Check out my site please"

Absolutely!
The operative phrase being "here and there".
Pick and choose the targets for your promotional link dropping and it has more chance of being seen and staying seen!! Using "machine gun" tactics and spraying your links randomly into the general thread/post "population" and you will be dealt with accordingly.
Here exactly the same thing will happen, start dumping lots of useless posts just for the sig links and you will be banned and all the links are then gone.
Forums, blogs, "Social Media" sites, etc etc are not there for you to abuse as you see fit.
There are obviously many that have been abandoned by their disillusioned creators which become fair game for all the internet lowlifes to dump their detritus, but that does not mean they all are to be treated the same way.
