For google, off-page optimization is more important than on-page. The yahoo search engine looking for the keyword density in meta aswell. But the backlinks are also very important if you want to be in good position in any of these three search engines.

Good point there! but google see both on and off . . . I guess they are fair in every aspect.

Both. but I spent more time on off page optimization, doing link exchange on relevant and related sites, bookmarking, directory submissions

Hi,

Both have their own importance. In onpage optimization, it's important to put right keywords at right place and in offpage optimization, do link building using these keyword.

HI, yes both are important and they work together for higher PR. Traffic(targeted keywords), commercial value and low competition plus back links and relevant content are needed for good SEO.

Generally Off page optimization consists of various steps like Title Selection, Description Preparation, Keyword Selection for Submissions, Directory Submissions, Search Engine Submissions, Link Building, Blog Posting, Comment Posting, Forum Posting, Community Building, Public relations, Link exchanges, Three way link building, Two way link building and One way link building.

Where as in On page optimization it is required to make proper changes in your website in such a way that the search engines read the source code of the page and do not overlook your web site.
