both are necessary but the preference is given to off page optimization.........coz the main thing we want is Traffic...........and off page work increase traffic.

you have to do a ton of on site work and have a great directory structure and content. that's the best way to do this. after that, start working on getting your name out there on relevant sites. if you are doing something interesting, people will link to you, if not, it's difficult to get backlinks
