Good morning,

I got involved on a school website committee after a developer was hired to build it. I am interested in optimizing it for search engines.

There is not individual HTML code for any of the pages; everything is stored in the Joomla database and modified through the administration area.

It is difficult to create better page titles and descriptions. Also, the content is pushed far down the page, beneath a lot of the underlying code.

Do you have any recommendations for optimizing a database-driven site built using Joomla? Will search engines see the content on a site built on-the-fly (database-driven)?

Here is a link to the site http://webstermontessori.org.previewdns.com/

Thanks,
Wilbury

Done correctly the search engines won't be able to tell that you have a database driven website. You can dynamically generate all your meta tags and titles. You might be able to find a Joomla SEO plugin to better control your meta tags & titles.

You should have some text navigation instead of just graphical button navigation. You can just put such text links in the footer.

Good seo mostly comes down to offpage link building though. So focus most of your efforts on that and your poor titles & meta tags might not matter so much.

I think there is no difference in optimizing for DW or Joomla. Just remember the TOS.

Well I guess it is somehow like a wordpress. So SEO plugins could really be a big help.. With regards to the link building process, I don't think there will be any difference either. Just the url structure. Check if you can do some redirections or mod rewrite for your urls.

I've heard of joomla before and I know that you can make a site out of it but when it comes to having an SEO for a joomla-built site how do you do it? is it the same method used in normal sites?
