Blocking an affiliate site from search engines

Hi,

I am looking to offer an affiliate site scheme, where each member would have their own site that must not be included in the search engines, as it would duplicate our own content.

To achieve this I planned to use domains held by us, 'rented' to them and a robots.txt to stop any indexing. Just wondered if anyone had any other ideas of steps that I could take or things to consider?

Any advice would be gratefully received as I have not managed to find too much on this as yet.

Kind regards, James

Why on earth would anyone sign up for an affiliate program where the websites are restricted from the search engines?? You won't find "any" good affiliates this way and the ones you do get will never make any sales for you, so what's the point??

You need to rethink your affiliate strategy completely if you want it to be successful..

Thanks Feydakin and apologies I should have left a little more detail.

The site provides a bolt-on service to them (and a few are already given the go-ahead) which allows them to make money offline. The affiliate website itself would be more of a catalogue for their customers, but must not list in the search engines. Hope that makes some more sense.
