Chrishirst, I have looked at different approaches around the web regarding building links and have made the decision to follow your advice. I cannot in good conscious add links to my site unless I feel that they are integrity driven, especially in the field that I am in. I have been asked in the past few months to exchange links with a few websites that are linked to what we call "scamdicappers" or salesmen disguised as true handicappers in sports betting. I turned them down for the same reason that I list above, integrity. Now that I have made this decision I have a question. What is the best way to display my links? A link page with a short description of each website? Please tell me where I can see an example of a website that goes about this properly and I can use for a pattern if you will. also, I am a little confused on something simple. I know that we want other sites linking to us, but what about normal traffic. How much does traffic by people saving and visiting your site on a regular basis help compared to having your link on another website...Thanks very much for your help...Tim.

getting natural link is very hard but you can make it looks natural. . . there are also different ways to get a link like directory, bookmarking and forum sig. just make it look natural. . .Also always remember that content is the king, that is the best way to get quality one way links.

There are as many ways as you can imagine

Ideally you should set it out in a way that can benefit your site as well. Any content you add describing the target site is content on your site.
The "traditional" way of link pages where they are almost orphaned, really benefits neither the link target or the site they are on.

Aim to become a "resource hub" for your marketplace, even including reviewing (and linking to) your competitors in an impartial manner can benefit your pages and your visitors.

One thing to remember though, link building in a controlled manner isn't for chasing "rankings", it's about getting targeted, and therefore valuable traffic.

In addition to what Chris said, I would say that any links you have going out should be complementary to your site or that particular page's content. If you have a site about tools and hardware and have links for websites about puppies and rainbows, your outgoing links aren't going to be very helpful to your users, your site, or the site to which you're linking. Also, I'd be very selective about which outgoing links that you have on more than one page, if any. Unless you're using the nofollow attribute, you might be hurting yourself SEO-wise.

I really appreciate all of the advice. I am getting a definite picture of how I personally will post links with description and approach various prospects for back links and such. I have a lot of work to do on this as well as going over the various review's of my website which I am also very grateful for. If anyone that reads this has five or ten minutes I would appreciate any constructive criticism regarding my website in the "review my website" forum. Thanks again for taking the time to help...Best of life to you all...Tim.

Slow building of links:

Unique Articles - 5 a month
Social Bookmarks - 5 a month
Blog Commenting - 20 a month

Have your own blog - 4 posts a month using SEO to build your other pages higher and build your website credibility.

After a couple of months you will get good ranking! : )
