i agree that i m totally n00b when it comes to SEO thingwhat i understand (may be wrong) so far is:Search engieen optimization is done automatically by google spider on certain forum softwares. I use myBB. I have installed a plugin which will change the URLs in following manneristead of:

Code:

 index.php?id=45645t&=545

it will make it:

Code:

index.php/mycategory/mytopic.html

So would that help me to get listed properly on google.?when ppl say SEO COMPANY? waht these companies do? I know this may be silly questions for u but gonna help me a lot!thanks!

Search engine rankings are primarily decided by a website's backlinks. So to improve your rankings, you need to work at building more quality backlinks to your website. Quality is more important than quantity.

SEO companies build links like this and they also optimize onpage factors.

Rewriting urls to include keywords is a good idea that will help your pages rank better. They will still need lots of backlinks for rankings though.

m sorry for this silly question,but how do u backlink?do u mean if someone is copying my article then he will put my ads in there?

Backlinks or Inbound Links are the incoming links from different websites or webpage to your own website.

No need to feel sorry mate, its ok there are millions of people who don't know what backlinks are?
You can get backinks in following way
!) by link exchange- You place some one else link on your website and he put your link.
2) by making dofollow blog comments
3) by article submission ( submitting article to article directories and also putting your website link in the article to get backlink)
4) by directory submission- Submitting your website to some of the best web directories and getting valuable back links.

:i have changed my [index.php?id=123456] to [index.php/mythread/mytopic] would that help?1 more thing: i had my site on techmafias.com/site.... i moved it to techmafias.com's root... would that help for better SEO?

What about designing good logos and banners, does it help to improve your ranking in a way? it is part of the optimization of the web pages, there are very high quality companies offering that kind of services.
