Ok, I know the basics of SEO and have my company indexed on its company name however the wide spread common terms is a challenge which I am working on.

My question is not how to do it however tools to do it better.

I use WebCEO, IBP and by hand.

Websites I use is

builtwith.com
aboutus.org
compete.com
alexa.com

are there other websites you can suggest to me?

I also was curious about the average SEO score for a good company, mine is currently at 85% which is not completed and was simply tested by a file upload.

The better seo score the better your chances at high ranking are correct?

Was also curious if I should use a paid service like Yahoo Overture?

Why don't you check your website with Google webmaster tool. Concentrate on on-site optimization when it is perfect you only need to provide quality incoming links to your website. Getting company name indexed and getting good result for it is fairly simple, what you have to work on is your top search words. If you want details please pm me.

You are going to need a lot more backlinks. You can only get so far by concentrating on onpage factors. Most search engines base their rankings algorithm mostly on backlinks.

seo score isnt important.the most important things are:
1.good content
2.clear page titles and meta descriptions for every page
3.links from 4 most important directories dmoz,yahoo business and botwg
4.relevant back links with couple same type of company like yours
5.blogs, facebook, social networks, forums, Wikipedia, write articles for directories.
6.clear code without errors.
There is many other things but these are the most important

Have you used a metatag analyzer for your site? If not, use submitexpress.com/analyzer/. This tool shows you how search engine robots analyze you and your competitiors site.

Thanks, yeah I admit that I have focused on the design aspect all these years to become really good.

I currently outsource to SEO service providers however would like to know how to do it myself as well.

I will read into SeoMoz and just saw SeoBook, I use firefox so there are tools available it looks like as well.

IBP is good, but the WebCEO is not so useful for SEO I think.

I use domaintools.com for some basic SEO overview, plus SEOQuake for Firefox when researching competitors sites.

Also there is a good keyword density checker at webconfs.com.

Install the Google Webmaster Tools, this is really going to be your best friend for SEO.

I'd be careful about focusing on some sort of SEO score. You need to have good SEO, but SEO isn't the end goal. Why does your site exist in the first place? Are you trying to make money? Are you trying to share information? Get signups? How well your site accomplishes its main purpose is your bottom line and SEO is only a part of that. Don't forget the rest of it.

Very nice reply, I actually focus on everything but seo however have been using seo for the past year now. Websites I develop do pretty well for the clients and they are really happy.

I love domaintools.com and use it every week.

IBP I think is a lot better. Have you tried using submitexpress.com tools as well as the adwords keyword tool?

I also use linkpopularitycheck.com sometimes when I check backlinks.
