Link baiting is a very basic principal, but it is tough to pull off successfully. Not everyone can come up with new ideas for original content, especially content good enough to naturally attract links.

Linkbaiting is basically creating a piece of killer content on your site that people will love to link to and/or install on their own site.

Good examples might be:

A foreign exchange currency convertor
The infamous Millionaire calculator
A funny video
Top Ten Tips lists

This is the best way to get good quality links in as they're very natural looking to Google, plus, once you've made you content, you don't have to trawl the web for places to put it. In Google's eyes content is always king so this gets you great results.
