Could someone explain to me what "PR" is i keep seeing it every where and people talking about it saying, this and that website hasn`t got "PR" ?

it is either "page rank" or "penguin rank" depending on who you ask...

they both mean about the same

Just remember that having a high PR is symptom of having a good website, not the other way around. If I had a dime for every thread I've seen by someone panicking because their PR has dropped (and yet their traffic remained the same)... I'd have a lot of dimes.

almost every SEO self help site has some kind of PR test but I would use the one that google offers...

PR stands for Page Rank... If you use firefox, there's an application there where you can see a certain site's Page Rank.

Unless it's an Alexa Traffic Rank then the lower the better
Webmaster-Talk.com has a current Alexa Traffic Rank of 8,465 and a current Google Page Rank of 3/10

Isnt having a higher page rank better ? I`m not sure I want to thats what I`m trying to find out, people are saying the lower the number the worse it is so 2 out of 10 seems pretty bad to me and i was wondering a) how do i raise a page rank on a website and b) is it actually worth me bothering raising the pr of a gaming site ?

Don't get too concerned about your pagerank. It isn't really important. You should focus on having a stable google ranking to increase your traffic by building quality links for your site.
