Hi guys
Here's the scenario...
Client "Black Shoes" has a site and obviously wants to be number 1 in google organic SER for search term "Black Shoes" so with this we sat down and agreed a complete redesign of the site. Now, normally I wouldn't recommend a new domain but the client's website simply says "Leather Soles" so when you search for "Black Shoes" they appear around SER 4-6 (depending when, where etc...)
My suggestion to them is that we buy a domain... "Black Shoes Leather Soles" so the search term is in the domain, keywords, description and of-course the content.
What do I do though...
Launch the new domain and keep the old one with a holding page for a week or so...
Launch the new domain and kill the current one and take a hit in the SER while the new domain gets indexed...
It's a tough cookie for me. Because the current domain has anticedents and I know Google likes this.
Any suggestions gratefully received...
Ultimately the plan is that the new domain will (I hope) rank well and we simply park the current domain on top but I know if we do this at launch they will dissapear from the SER for maybe a week, maybe more...
Has anyone else come accross a similar situation and how did you resolve it...?
PS...
They absolutely refuse to have two live domains even though I have demonstrated how I have three live domains, each with unique content that are branded similarly and I enjoy 3 out of the first 10 SER for my chosen keyphrase.
In an ideal world I would like to have 2 domains running for this client each with unique content targeting different markets.
