I'm wondering how i can get more traffic to my portfolio. I've tried advertising, and have meta tags, and its on search engines.

Promote it on social bookmarks, blogs.....also update it frequently with useful and unique content and submit rss to to rss directories......

It's a very catchy design, but in order to get more traffic, your content has to be interesting, informative, or otherwise worthy of someone visiting it frequently. Since your website is a portfolio, only prospective customers would probably ever visit it and give you traffic. It's only a fact of life; you can't expect traffic like game sites, social networking, web apps, search engines, news sites, etc because your website is a different kind.

It's a portfolio with by definition would have infrequent changes. I doubt submitting to RSS directories would do much good.

I where do you think the best place would be for me to advertise? What types of advertisements would work best?

If you've got the resources, Google Adwords is a really great idea. People who are searching for logos or a subject close to your portfolio will see your result in the "Sponsored Links" section and hopefully click on it.

Normally, I'd recommend advertising in local businesses papers and magazine but, being in Iowa, that could be tough.

You might try getting recommendations from your previous clients and working the phone.

one of the best way to promote your portfolio is to do post your link to social bookmarking sites, make involvement in the social networks sites that are of high traffic..like face book etc...

you can use your portfolio url on your signature or even post in a classified ads.

Back links is the answer!.. You have to get tons of back links to generate traffic.. Participating in doing Off-Page Optimization will be a great idea..
