I haven't come across anybody who can prove that social bookmarking does anything in the serps for those pages bookmarked. Increase in traffic I can see happening, depending on the niche and what's being bookmarked. But from an SEO standpoint.. I want some proof.

Social bookmarkings really help on indexing your site, and that was really real..I've tried that already..

We've tested that too, and it took about 4 weeks to index our test page... but I'm talking about whether somebody can prove that there is an increase in rankings by bookmarking. There is a lot of talk that bookmarking should be a part of our SEO practices, but nobody can prove what it actually does, if anything.

I think social bookmarking is a fairly ineffective strategy for increasing serps. It really only works well for buzz worthy sites/pages. For most other sites it is a waste of time. As jhenna mentioned, it still is good for helping get pages indexed quicker.

If the link is no follow then no direct SEO benefit. Indirectly it can help you. If your link gets popular within the social networks site , chances are good that members will recommend your site whenever they get any chance.
Write content written to interest or amuse your audience, use social networks to show it off and the natural links (which WILL help your SEO) will come.

I'm not quite sure which social bookmarking site you used that took 4 weeks to get your test page indexed. It only takes a few minutes for a Digg page to get indexed (though the page it points to might take a little longer). I would be surprised if other popular social bookmarking sites weren't spidered as frequently as well.

Like pow-wow mentioned, there are indirect benefits when you actually have content worth linking to. However, if you're looking at social media strictly in terms of SEO benefits, you're missing the point of it.

Well, I think Social Bookmarking helps you in getting traffic. Traffic to a website proves that it is important website that why visitors are visiting this site. So it does help you in improving SERP's as well. But still you cannot say that Social Bookmarking is only alone factor in improving SERP's as there are other major factors too that helps in improving SERP's.

yes posting in social bookmarking is one of most important method of seo with regards to link building and sometimes this can also attract traffic.

Truth about Social Bookmarking:
90% of the sites you submit to are not for direct traffic because most of the sites themselves don't get much traffic. These are just for links which can help, and the occassional trickle of traffic.

The other 10% like Digg and Reddit are major social bookmarking sites where you can get direct traffic on top of backlinks. I would focus on the main ones but try the others to see how it goes for yourself.

Social Bookmarking does help! For my sites, it helped me get indexed faster than submitting to Search Engines, I don't even have to submit to search engines because of it. Not only that, people actually visit my site and if they like it they also bookmark it, more traffic for me

What I love most in Social Bookmarking is that when I bookmark my blogs, because people rate my articles.

Well social bookmarking help us to get index fast in every major search engine , and having some back links too , but i'm not sure about SERP Ranking , because i see that when i bookmark my new article to social media site at once i get good place , But after some time i lost that position ... its just help for some time

Social Bookmarking websites supplies more traffic to my sites, and make good to the SERP, on the other hand, some bookmarking sites are nofollow, so it is not worth for seo purpose!

in order to generate traffic and crawl the pages i do social bookmarking.
seriously saying i get 300 visits from reddit and 100 from stumble.
It helps to get backlinks. whenever i put content on the blogs/site i do social bookmarking on spot and the page gets cache and after few days comes in rank.
