whats more is that the list is pretty naff.

Quote:
Stop using keywords in your URLs.
Stop using keywords in your titles.
Rubbish. You should have your keywords here if possible, if not in the domain then DEFINITELY in the TITLE

Quote:
Redesign your Web site once or twice a year.
Rubbish. Totally not necessary - SE's do not look at the design of a page.

Quote:
Add 5 pages of content to your site every week.
Helpful but not necessary to rank well.

Quote:
Optimize your best peforming page for the exact mirror of your targeted keyword expression (turn an ABCD page into a DCBA page).
I don't see how that would help.

Quote:
Find 5 low-traffic blogs or forums that are consistently active and support them through comments, links, and referrals WITHOUT being self-promotional.
Yes, its always best to get your links on low-traffic sites... lol!

Quote:
Write 10 blocks of ad copy (no more than 25 words each) every week. Place them on the Web where they won’t offend anyone.
Write 1 full-page announcement about your Web site each week. Post it some place where it won’t offend anyone.
Umm... yes... might want to mention putting a link in there... also where to put them: for Presee Releases go to press releases stops, for articles, article directories.

Quote:
Get a text editor like Wordpad (the fewer frills the better) and use it to code one of your Web pages from scratch.
I would always recommend coding from scratch. But this doesn't mention WHY. Just doing this WILL NOT help SEO in anyway.

Quote:
Learn how to write Who, What, Where, When, and Why in 4 paragraphs or less.
Basic writing skills then.

Quote:
Create a 1-page listing of 20 UNKNOWN Web sites you wish you had created. Post that page on your site.
What on earth has that got to do with SEO????

Quote:
Create a forum signature that does not promote your Web site. Put it into every forum profile you have created.
Ok this list is getting weird... is it supposed to be sarcastic/humourous?

Quote:
Design a 5-10 page Web site about a community project or charitable activity. Promote that site to number 1. Now repeat the process...
Ok this is just getting beyond stupid now. How do you get it to number 1? Thats the point of SEO and what this list SHOULD be saying.

I can't be bothered to finish the list. Whoever wrote this is insane. Ignore this list!

This is kind of a mixed bag thread... I think that keywords in URL and Titles are helpful but not necessary, I've been doing alot of research that states that Google is more concerned with contextual relevance and of coarse B A C K L I N K S !!! Most people never get anywhere because they don't develop proper linking strategies... I also think that BOLDING your keywords inside your content can go a long way in addition to finding quality sitewide partners to work out 3 way exchanges with... Just a few ideas

I don’t understand the logic of few points. Why we should not use keyword in title in url while search engines recommends them.

Totally a great answer. SEO is all about the constant update of your site to let search engines find new and useful posts and contents to be placed on the search results. Having keywords in the title and url is the main idea and the most effective way to get quality articles indexed fast.

To be honest I only see two things that you mentioned that are any where being close to help with traffic & seo.

First thing was adding content every week, this one made the most sense out of anything you said. Sites needs to constantly keep fresh material on the site, the more pages indexed the better.

Second thing was changing your site design each year. This is not as important to seo as it is to returning customers and traffic, although it is recommended to do this.

Well this person was very successful in showing us all how to make a forum post get lots of feedback and therefore rank higher, in a figurative manner.

I think the key is to write misinformation that wakes the sleeping dogs. Write a forum post with completely ridiculous and off point "rubbish" and you get a massive response. Good responses, no, but traffic generated none the less. Good work master of misinformation.

Frankly, I thought I was losing my mind when I read the first post in this thread. Oh, and I didn't give him the clickthrough he was looking for. Try to get me to follow a link, in a blatantly obvious manner, and you guarantee me not to bite on it.

I think that SEO is totally overrated especially if most of the people that claim to know what they are talking about have no clue. That reply is classic edgray!

It is all most impossible for new site to obtain backlinks! why should someone be so generous and pass a back link to a PR 0-2 website? It is not fair for Google to value websites while attaching too much importance on backlinks.

People shouldn't link to site out of "generosity" they should do it because it provides value to the visitors. Page authors don't care about the PR of the site they link to. They care if it's useful.

BTW, google sends plenty of traffic to sites with few backlinks when the page is relevant to the search.

If you create useful and interesting content people will link to it.
