Yes it's true! I've read some articles before about using blogs to gain rankings. Since blogs are flexible, you can target one niche to as many as you like yet all niche are related to your main site. That way you can get a wider audience, more traffic and more sales

I am totally agree with the information served. Its fully true that by commenting on the blogs post, you may grab a special attention by the Search Engines and these are as well most useful in gathering back links as well.

To be honest, I'm kind of skeptic of the review part. Theoretically, it could be a wonderful opportunity (free ad, plus a link - that is really something), but I can't see it as viable in practice. This is obvious promotion, and if I were a blogger, I wouldn't seriously consider taking the time to write and post an article to promote someone else's product/site. There's also the question of competition - if the person is capable to express an informed opinion on my product, they are bound to be in the same niche - competition.

Please correct me if my perspective is completely warped.

One example of how review works really well is the Eclipse Foundation.

Every year, when the next release of the software comes out, they get people to review it on their blogs. Every reviewer get a free polo shirt. Some reviews are positive. Many are mixed, they tell the good and the bad.

Reviews won't work for everything. You just have to decide if it's right for your particular situation.
