I apologize if this should be in the web directories forum, but I'm looking for guidance moreso related to SEO. I also probably should have named it "directories and backlinks".

I just recently learned about the bustling business of search engine optimization, and I'm blown away by how fast moving this business is and I'm loving every new topic I learn about it.

The first big item on the list that I noticed was backlinks. After researching backlinks, the NEXT big thing I noticed relating to actual backlinks was DMOZ. Why DMOZ? Because every time I viewed a websites 200 backlinking websites, 100 of them were different directory
.coms, but in some way those directory .coms took me back to DMOZ.com. It was usually in the form of the "submit link" button.

Are there websites that create directory listings based off of what dmoz uses?

If that's true, then wouldn't that make DMOZ an extremely credible way of gaining backlinks?

First of all - your in the right forum.

Adding a site to DMOZ is the right thing to do - it is a powerful directory. Though, I'm not sure it there are websites that create directory listings based off of what dmoz uses.

DMOZ may be a backlink but, (like all directories) it is a worthless backlink.

Your time could be better spent finding ways to make your site attractive enough that people would want to link to it.
First, would be to eliminate that popup that's thrown when trying to leave the site.

I believe DMOZ is the most popular and well respected human-edited directory, mainly because all links that are included in DMOZ are quality sites. It's easy to submit to DMOZ, and other directories, but inclusion takes time specially in DMOZ. I've read a search engines optimizer's post, in another popular webmaster forum, that his site got listed on DMOZ after 2 years.

As I noticed that Dmoze is the good source to find out the Category to be submit the site and as far as if we talk about link from Dmize It will be good because its a High PR website.

Hi,

It's good to get a backlink from DMOZ and to get listed in it. However, I don't think it's quite useful to boost your ranking in SERP and to generate traffic as well.

No, I don't think all those directories are using dmoz data. The only thing I can think of in this respect is a couple of websites out there mimicing dmoz (design/layout/domain name).

A dmoz link is valuable in the sense it is a link, but there's nothing much more than that. The hype around dmoz is actually quite surprising. I mean, who uses dmoz to search for sites? Why the big deal then?

Dmoz had a high importance two or three years ago, but right now it hasn't much importance in seo.

Though, there are some people who consider it a high point in getting link from dmoz.

My first website was accepted by DMOZ in a couple of months.

I submitted another website to DMOZ and as far as I know it never was listed on DMOZ. I have several websites that are not listed on DMOZ and my websites are listed on the first page of the search engines.

That tells me that DMOZ does not have as much of an influence as it use to have for search engine rankings, at least not on Google.

Dmoz backlink is very much important but it is not approving the submission fast.i have submitted my link before 3 month but still waiting for approval.

for your information there are a lot of ways and websites where you can gain your quality backlinks intead of focusing on dmoz. There are social bookmarkin, social networking, blogging, blog posting, blog comments and the most effective and popular way is the social media optimization.

DMOZ backlinks matter same as other high PR directory submission....
for better optimization you need many quality backlinks,,try hard to get it and you sure will see result

There are only rare directories which can get you some benefits. Dmoz and some other are nice one's and you will get benefits from them.
